Online NEC voting - secret enough?

I've just voted online for the NEC, Treasurer & Auditors, and the voting system secrecy seems inadequate to me. You have to give your membership number to vote, unlike on the paper ballot; and the voting data is transferred unencrypted so could be observed in transit.

Update: The lack of encryption issue has been fixed after I reported it, with voting now at the rather quaint URL: https://clarahost.clara.net/www.kenda.co.uk/labourparty/ - though using a sub-contractor of a sub-contractor of a contractor's SSL Server Certificate means users cannot verify from the certificate or the URL that this is the genuine voting website, and have to take that on trust.

NEC Elections: Questions to Candidates

Labour Outlook is currently putting together a mini-site to cover this year's NEC elections.

Candidate profiles will be going up on the site over the next couple of days.

If you've got a question you'd like to be put to all the candidates, please post it below or email editor@labouroutlook.com and we'll put the answers up over the next week.

NEC elections my take

Dear Colleagues

I feel this NEC election will be the last with slates.  Thi is moves for democracy in GRA, which is good and would like to see this in members first.  I would like to see a good old left/right battle on policy and not between indviduals.  There is talent on both slates, but in differing ways.  Lets just hope they do work for the grassroots.  I will stand next time if asked by CLPs, because we do need a shake up.

Why I will be voting Grassroots alliance for the NEC

Without many left independants, I am supporting the GRA slate for the NEC elections later this Month.  Amongst the list are some progressives, they are a better choice than Labour first, although there are some decent people amongst them.  What I will guarantee is that I will stand next time for the NEC as a progressive and left-winger, which I am proud of. .  It is the case that the Labour First slate needs more experience and the GRA has got stale and needs more younger people and people from the left.  This will be a close election and I do hope we have a debate about the direction to a more progressive wing.  I would also like to see less personality politics!!

With regards to all

NEC election gathering pace as nominations sent in

Dear Colleagues

The NEC elections is going well with all candidates having a say on issues.  My only concern is to make sure it is falls on policy and democracy and not personality.  I hope that all members will vote for who they think will offer best representation for their interests.  If would like to nominate/vote for me, please view:-

LET'S PLAY FAIR IIN NEC DEBATE

I'm appalled to note the  level of personal vitriol being thrown at  John Wiseman in the wake of his decision to stand for the NEC.

John Wiseman decision to stand after consultation

After comments by some comrades.  I am now convinced that I must stand

1 I feel I have the experience needed to shake up the NEC
2 Everybody who knows me will tell you I don't quite when comes to respresenting people

I am pushing for a progressive ticket, democracy, honesty and accountability, and someone who will support workers.  I am sorry I have to stand as a left independent, but we need change in the party and now.  I can unite the left and centre left better than most.  I am committed to getting this party back to its roots.  I ask you for the last time to nominate me.

Why I am standing for the NEC?

The John Cruddas and John McDonnell campaign's taught me one thing, if there is any sense in the world both of these great campaigners should be in leading positions in the party.  That is why we are suffering.  I hope to bring the centre-left and left together in this campaign and show that young activists, trade unionists and PPCs can make a difference to the future of our country.  I want to see the implementation of the temporary workers directive.  I want to see the removal of all anti-trade union legislation.  I don't want to see the building of more nuclear power stations for my daughter's generation.  I want to see peace in the world, Obama to win the democract presidential nomination, the immediate withdrawl of troops from Iraq and be brave enough to say so.  I would like to see one national minimum wage of at least £8.00 an hour, yes getting rid of poverty pay for our most vunerable people.  I would like to see more investment in pension eg the immediate introduction of the index link.   More care home investment from councils not less, less privately run.  I would say most importantly an end to the PFI, PPP in our schools and health service.  I have had to go through a PFI.  The reform agenda needs to be about more Government direct investment through an increase on taxes for people on more than £80,000 a year and this money invested into our NHS, schools, climate change research eg renewable technology.  I want to end on this, you want progressive ideas at the top of the party including reform of donations, more money from the unions and affiliates.  Support me! You want an end to private donations and the re-affliation of unions that have left us as well as others that could affliate including the NASUWT (now with a political fund) and the NUT (voting on it now), support me!  Lets make sure that Gordon knows that this party's grassroots have a voice, vote for change.  Nominate John Wiseman.
